Ultra-convenient to operate, excellent screen
The comprehensive functions and program sequences are easily controlled and operated with the help of a rotary jog dial and a menu system, with all information displayed on the large (approx. 59 x 49 mm) integral backlit graphic screen.
The most important features of the charger are its excellent charging performance and its four parallel charge / discharge channels, all of which can be used simultaneously for a variety of processes.
Charge outputs 1 + 2
Charge channels 1 and 2 work with secondary pulsed switch-mode regulators to reduce waste power, and are suitable for use with batteries consisting of up to 20 NC / NiMH, 1 ... 7 Lithium cells or 1 ... 12 lead-acid cells. A maximum charge / discharge current of 5 A is available for the two channels, depending on the cell count of the pack. The maximum total charge power of these two channels is 40 W; channel 1 is capable of charging at 40 W whilst channel 2 discharges at 40 W.
Outputs 3 + 4
Channels 3 and 4 are designed for batteries with a nominal voltage of up to 12 V, i.e. 1 ... 10 NC / NiMH cells, 1 ... 3 Lithium or 1 ... 6 lead-acid cells, and are capable of supplying a total charge current of 1 A. This charge current is divided over the two channels, e.g. channel 3 = 800 mA, channel 4 = 200 mA. Full-current discharge processes can take place on both channels simultaneously.
The micro-processor administers the charge power automatically. If the user sets excessive charge values, outputs 1 + 2 or 3 + 4 operate sequentially instead of simultaneously.

Once the user has selected the battery type and the appropriate function, the intelligent battery management does everything to ensure that the battery´s maximum performance is restored and maintained.
As standard, the ALC 8500 Expert supports all the important battery technologies currently on the market, including Nickel-Cadmium (NC), Nickel-Metal-Hydride (NiMH), Lead-Gel, Lead-Acid (Pb), Lithium-Ion (Li-Ion) and Lithium-Polymer (Li-Po).
Where avoidance of premature battery deterioration is paramount, an external temperature sensor (option, No. 84811000) can be connected to the charger.
Future-proof
The use of flash memory technology effectively future-proofs the device, as the software can be updated at any time via the USB interface. This means that existing battery technologies can be modified and new types implemented.
Battery data bank
The charger features a large internal data bank which can store the charge parameters for all batteries; every time you start a new charge / discharge process, the parameters are available again simply by pressing a button.
Setting your own charge / discharge parameters
Experts can even adjust the charge cut-off and discharge termination voltages to suit their individual requirements.
