All our radios supplied with new R5114 receiver and 2 years of full warranty.
Futaba has once again set a new standard in the continuing development of RC systems with the introduction of the T14MZ - a system which represents a giant technological leap forward. Visually and in terms of ergonomics the transmitter is elegant and beautifully balanced: all the controls are perfectly arranged and contribute to the overall impression of stylish efficiency. The overall design is complemented by the high-quality materials chosen for the case: a blend of carefully selected plastics and subtle touches of magnesium.
The large, backlit, full-colour, 157 x 57 mm touch-screen monitor (half VGA: 640 x 240 pixels) is integrated seamlessly into the distinctive and distinguished case, and constitutes the essential hub of the system.
Under the skin we find that the T14MZ offers dozens of unique features. The new PCM 2048 system now offers 14 channels with a resolution of 2048 steps, and operates about 40% faster than the previous top-level system: PCM 1024. This constitutes virtually real-time control. The type of modulation is switchable, and is compatible with PCM 1024 and 8-channel FM (PPM).
The system is equipped with two independent operating systems. One is WindowsTM CE, which controls the colour screen and its operation. The second is the FUTABA operating system, which controls and monitors the model functions and RF signal transmission. The next section provides a description of the wealth of new and highly innovative details which the new T14MZ transmitter offers.
The system can be controlled either using the touch-screen or the 3-D Hotkey located below it and four menu buttons.
The screen provides good legibility both in diffuse light and in bright sunlight thanks to the combination of backlighting and an ingenious filter screen and liquid filter system.
2048-step PCM System
PCM 2048 (PCM-G3) is the third generation of such systems, and now offers 14 channels with a resolution of 2048 steps - twice the previous figure. In spite of the higher resolution, the signal repeat rate (17.6 ms) of the PCM 2048 system is around 40% higher than the previous best system: the PCM 1024. The response time, i.e. the delay between moving the transmitter control and the initial movement of the servo, has also been reduced by 25%. The net result of these changes is virtually real-time control, and leading pilots have confirmed that the system provides a significantly more direct feeling of control.
14-Channel PCM System
Many modellers have expressed a wish for more control channels, and the new 14-channel PCM-G3 system meets this need, with 12 proportional channels and 2 switched channels - and all this with the superior PCM technology. Each of the two switched channels can be expanded to eight channels by connecting a decoder to the receiver. (Multi-Switch) The corresponding R 5014 PCM-G3 receiver features Synthesizer spot frequency selection, and in spite of its complexity it is just 52.5 x 37.5 x 16 mm in size, with a weight of 33 g, due primarily to exploitation of the latest BGA (Ball Grid Array) layout technology. Dual-conversion technology for high interference rejection and adjacent channel separation.
WFSS Wireless Frequency Setting System
Yet another world´s first is the WFSS process (Wireless Frequency Setting System): a method of setting the receiver´s spot frequency from the transmitter. If you wish to change the spot frequency for a particular model, you simply select the appropriate channel using the transmitter´s on-screen DDS Synthesizer system. The selected spot frequency is then transmitted by radio to the receiver, where it is stored. At the same time the number of the spot frequency and the receiver´s unique serial number are stored in the corresponding model memory. This ensures that the mixer program, model memory and spot frequency are always correctly matched.
Compact Flash Memory Card
The T14MZ transmitter employs Compact Flash Cards (CF-Cards) as an expandable storage medium. These cards offer storage capacities of up to 1000 MB and are very reasonably priced. Around 300 kB of memory is required for each model memory with 8 flight modes, and this means that even a 32 MB CF-Card can store data for around 100 models. The transmitter features a 30-model internal memory. For music and pictures a CF-Card is required for storage. The CF-Card also stores the speech files (wav), music files (wma) and image files (bmp).
A picture of the associated model can be assigned to each model memory. Up to 24 speech files (wav) can be assigned to individual switched functions for each model. A typical use would be audible confirmation of switching from one flight mode to another. The transmitter can announce the model´s name when the user switches it on - a useful safety check. Stored music files enable the pilot to practise freestyle aerobatic schedules to music.
´ Precision dual-axis stick unit
New, precision dual-axis stick units, featuring four ballraces.
At the development stage of the new dual-axis stick unit one of the crucial points of emphasis was an accurate feeling of control when the sticks pass through the centre position. The stick units are fitted with special ultra long-life potentiometers. The problem of cable management has been solved in an elegant way: one pot is attached permanently to the stick housing, and does not feature a moving cable at all.
The cable of the 2nd pot is axially guided only, and therefore only moves through about 45° in a single plane.
The stick unit is fitted with a ratchet and a brake. These features, and the variable centring spring tension, can be activated and adjusted from outside the transmitter.
Telescopic aerial with bayonet mounting: quick to fit and remove.
The aerial can be stored in a lockable compartment in the side of the transmitter base. Side-mounted double slider and switch, positioned within easy reach of the fingers. Simple, completely variable switch assignment.
Retractable potentiometers and central rotary digital knob.
The two side-mounted rotary controls can also be operated from the rear of the transmitter. On the rear panel of the transmitter we find the Trainer / DSC socket, the charge socket (12 V), and the headphone socket. The two small openings, fitted with rubber seals, are for adjusting the centring spring tension and the stick unit ratchet or brake function.
A DDS Synthesizer generates the spot frequency signal for all frequency bands, while the RF amplifier produces the required RF output for the frequency band in use. Modern Lithium-Ion-Polymer battery technology. The Li-Poly battery features a latching quick-change mechanism. The set includes a 230 Volt Li-Poly charger, and a charge socket for use with an optional 12 Volt Li-Poly charger is fitted in the battery compartment.
Power Models (Acro)
Comprehensive mixer menus for an enormous range of power model types, from aircraft with one aileron servo up to models with max. eight wing-mounted servos. In addition to the wing type the user can also select from the following tail variants: normal, separate elevators with aileron function (ailvator) and V-tail. Deltas and powered flying wings with 2 to 8 wing-mounted servos are also available. Once called up, these mixer menus are presented as pre-programmed items suitable for the selected model, with all the requisite mixer functions available.
Model Gliders (Glider)
Here again, the transmitter software provides a comprehensive set of mixer menus to cater for a vast variety of model types, from aircraft with one aileron servo up to models with max. 8 wing-mounted servos. Optionally with or without power system. In addition to the wing type the user can also select from the following tail variants: normal, separate elevators with aileron function (ailvator) and V-tail. Flying wings with 2 to 10 wing-mounted servos are also available. These mixer menus are presented as pre-programmed items suitable for the selected model, with all the requisite mixer functions available.
Model Helicopters
The various helicopter mixer menus differ basically in the swashplate actuation system; all the classic linkages are available, such as H1, H2, HR3, HN3, H4 and the new H3 90° and H3 140°. Every imaginable mixer function is provided in these menus. One special feature is the new form of variable pushrod travel compensation provided for the H3 and H4 types. This eliminates the common problem of uneven travels where the movement is fairly large or asymmetrical; a situation which can cause servo damage in the long-term. The speed of the pitch-axis function can also be adjusted in order to avoid differential servo transit times in the HR / N3 120° linkage. Integral virtual swashplate rotation.
